chanchanonearth — Unconscious Landscapes
Chan Chan is a Taipei-born artist and writer working under the name chanchanonearth. Her practice moves fluidly between drawing and writing, walking quietly along the inner and outer landscapes of everyday life.
Born in November in Taipei, Chan holds a Master’s degree in Broadcasting and Film from National Chengchi University. Her background spans film art direction, gallery and exhibition planning, publishing, architectural journalism, and brand marketing. These layered experiences shape her sensitive, observational approach to image-making.
Practice & Philosophy
Chan works primarily with oil pastels, creating what she calls Unconscious Landscapes—drawings for being, for continuing to walk.
For her, drawing is a form of meditation.
There is no schedule, no goal, no deadline.
She paints only in the morning, under natural light. Time dissolves. Purpose disappears. Using only her fingertips, she moves back and forth between pigment and paper—like walking barefoot across rocky ground. Heat builds. Friction appears. Sometimes there is pain.
Past, present, and future compress into one another.
Layers accumulate—both distant and intimate—until something slowly emerges.
On paper, the inner landscape reveals itself quietly, without intention.
About Unconscious Landscapes
Unconscious Landscapes is not about depicting places, but about allowing landscapes to arrive.
Through repeated, tactile gestures, Chan lets memory, sensation, and emotion surface naturally. The images are not planned; they are waited for. What appears is neither purely abstract nor representational, but something in-between—a gentle record of inner movement.
