Founder’s story
LIGHTO’s founder, Po-Chuan Chen, started by selling his photo postcards in a small guesthouse on Taiwan’s east coast during military service. Over time, he kept exploring new ways to let his works be seen, from postcards and self-published photo books to handmade lightboxes and small healing objects that bring photography into everyday life.
Creative and professional background
Po-Chuan is one of the few Taiwanese creators who works seriously with both writing and photography. His works have received more than ten awards and selections in international competitions, including the International Photography Awards (IPA) and the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity. He studied Computer Science and later Multimedia at National Cheng Kung University and National Chiao Tung University, and has long documented Taiwan’s landscapes, communities, and cultures through words and images.
Exhibitions and global reach
His photography has been exhibited in institutions such as the Kaohsiung Museum of Fine Arts, Taoyuan International Airport galleries, and various museums and cultural spaces across Taiwan. Since 2016, his works have also been represented by international photography gallery networks such as YellowKorner, where nearly 4,000 prints have been collected by buyers around the world.
How this led to LIGHTO
In 2015, he began learning woodworking and lightbox making, combining photography, wood, and light into a new form of wall art. This experimentation gradually evolved into what LIGHTO is today. At the heart of his practice is a simple question: “Where should each artwork go?”—the wish to help every piece find its place and let more people live with art in their daily spaces.
In 2026, LIGHTO decided to launch its international website to introduce its collaborating artists and their works to a global audience.Through this step, the brand aims to build more connections between Asian creators and art lovers around the world.
