About the artist
Danish artist Nina Flagstad Kvorning draws inspiration from intimate relationships in everyday life. She depicts small objects in rich colors, giving her images depth and texture.
“My creative process almost always begins with the material I’m working with and a particular color,” says Nina. She works primarily in oils and soft pastels on paper or cardboard. From there, Nina sketches the subject in pencil before adding her signature use of color. “I start with the color that first inspired the work, then slowly add other shades until I’m satisfied.”
Overall, color is central to Nina’s art—not only for the emotions it evokes, but also for its sensory qualities. The texture of pastels enhances and complements certain feelings and memories associated with the subjects she depicts.
“It may sound boring, but there is so much knowledge in our everyday lives. I want to depict and preserve moments from our daily lives.”
