About the artist
Hanna Peterson
Her work is colorful, expressive, and appreciative of the human body, the textiles we wrap around it, and the surroundings we interact with. “Composition is very important to me,” says Swedish artist Hannah Peterson, “including where the focus is, the angle of the body, and the elements that are included and excluded in the work.”
The organic texture of fabric and skin is a recurring theme in Hannah's work. She prefers to use gouache on raw canvas when painting, but has recently experimented with wool and other textiles, using natural materials such as wool, cotton, and linen. “I am someone who is fascinated by materials and loves the flow and flow of fabrics,” she says, continuing: “In addition to architectural functionalism, I was also inspired by the Scandinavian textile movement of the 1960s or so. Especially the simplicity of their analog sketching methods and designs.
AWAY FROM HOME:
Hannah grew up in a small town in central Sweden, but over the past few years she has made Gothenburg, on the coast, her home. In the city, she became an artist and worked day in and day out in a small studio and studio shared with friends. However, much of the initial inspiration for her work was formed during her daily walks. “When I go out for a walk, I sketch pictures in my head. After that, I often make mood boards and put them next to my work - which helps me create an atmosphere that guides me into the creative process. ”
Working as an artist blurs the line between personal life and professional inspiration. “It's natural, but sometimes you have to be careful - especially when you're bringing work home. I think it's important to finish work in time so that we can continue to move forward with our dreams.”
To relax, Hannah enjoys yoga and spends a lot of time outdoors in nature when the sun comes out. “My newest hobby is an old but lovely sailboat, and I plan to learn how to sail it this summer.”
