Artwork title: White Flowers in Striped Vase
Frankie Penwill's work is deeply influenced by her love of plants and flowers. She grew up in a small town in Devon, England, surrounded by nature and accustomed to outdoor life. This background continues to shape her work as an artist, illustrator and print designer.
Since moving into an apartment in London, Frankie has become particularly interested in interior spaces. “I've been searching online and looking through all kinds of interior design books. So I started trying to paint different pots, vases, and ceramics, all adorned, of course, with floral patterns I painted myself.”
With a background in print design, she has experimented with a range of media and formats, but freehand drawing is currently her favorite because it preserves the natural marks of the brush—even mistakes. “Sometimes those mistakes become the most perfect parts of the work,” she says.
Color experiments
Color is an integral part of Frankie’s creative process. Bold color combinations, vivid tones, harmonious and natural transitions between colors, and the outlines of abstract flowers are hallmarks of her work. “I like to experiment as much as possible—using clashing colors that normally wouldn’t go together.”
Asked what her ideal Saturday looks like, she unsurprisingly gave an answer involving flowers: “A cup of coffee in bed, some music, a walk, and then a fresh bouquet from the local florist and a croissant! That’s my perfect Saturday.”

About the artist
Frankie Penwill's work was influenced by her love of plants and flowers. She comes from a small town in Devonshire, England. She has been living in a natural environment since childhood and is used to being outdoors. This background has continued in her work as an artist, illustrator and print designer.
Recently, Frankie developed a special interest in indoor spaces after moving into an apartment in London. “I've been searching and browsing the internet for a variety of interior design books. So I started trying to paint different pots, vases, and crockery with my own floral patterns.”

Color experiment
Color is an integral part of Frankie's creative process. Her work is marked by bold color schemes, vibrant tones, harmonious and natural color transitions, and silhouettes of abstract flowers. “I like to experiment as much as possible - using colors that conflict with each other and don't normally fit together.”
When asked what an ideal Saturday would look like, the answer isn't surprisingly related to flowers: “Have a coffee in bed, put on some music, go for a walk, and buy a bunch of fresh flowers and a praiseworthy one at the local florist! This is the perfect Saturday for me.”
