THE PEOPLE BEHIND THE ART
Luigi Veronesi
1 WORK
Luigi Veronesi (May 28, 1908–February 25, 1998) was an Italian photographer, painter, stage designer and filmmaker born in Milan. Before and after the Second World War, he played a significant role in the development of Italian photography. Renowned in graphic design and painting, he was deeply interested in geometry and mathematics and helped establish the photographic group La Bussola. He continued exhibiting into the late 1980s.
This image is part of a series of photographic images by Veronesi exploring movement. The series involves experiments with long exposures and moving the camera, light source, or object to “draw” shapes with light. It is characteristic of Veronesi's experimental approach to and interest in abstraction and geometry. As he engaged with the early twentieth-century modernist scene, he experimented with lines, shapes, and darkroom techniques such as solarization, microphotography, and direct or double exposure.
