THE PEOPLE BEHIND THE ART
Chloe Purpero Johnson
1 WORK
For artist Chloe Purpero Johnson, making art is a form of meditation and a natural part of her daily life: “I find that making art makes me feel alive and gives me a sense of purpose. It puts me in a state of complete calm and peace.” When her mind races at an almost startling speed, art becomes a quiet place for her: “But when I make art, I am calm.”
Inspired by modern Expressionism, her work evokes curiosity and calm.
Chloe Purpero Johnson now lives in Charleston, South Carolina, but grew up in Europe. Her art draws on both her European roots and her current surroundings. Her subjects typically consist of simple forms and figures, with earthy tones and bright colors.
The artist herself describes her work as feminine, playful, and touched with a hint of whimsy.
