“This eternally round Soup is full of adorably clueless expressions. Please make sure it becomes a companion in your stylish, happy home life!”

The story of the black cat Soup... One spring afternoon in Iidabashi, a kind soul took in a little black cat. By a fortunate twist of fate, the cat was named Soup and became part of the family. Soup lived happily with Pan (“Bread”), the black cat who had arrived earlier. When Pan reached the end of his life and passed away... lonely Soup welcomed a new companion, and the black cat’s leisurely life continued. But time waits for no one, and the day came when little Soup, too, had to say goodbye.

Today’s Soup is a small picture book made from adorable, endearingly clueless photographs of Soup (and the stylish Pan!) from days gone by. We hope to keep this going in the future, so please continue to cherish this round little Soup.

* On the afternoon of October 2, 2021, Soup peacefully passed away after 18 wonderful, fulfilling years.

Most astonishing of all are those perfectly round eyes, unlike any you've ever seen! There could be no better example of what the word “mejikara”—the power of the eyes—means. Once a small stray cat, Soup can sometimes be a little fierce, but after moving between shelters and adoptive homes, Soup now leads a full and happy life, sometimes singing, sometimes dancing, sometimes yawning... a rich and varied life (?). Made up of simple monochrome photographs and brief comments, this book goes beyond cuteness to convey the mysterious Soup's charms directly, like a photographic picture book. I'm sure that not only cat lovers but anyone can enjoy it.

Soup is a tiny black cat. The family that welcomed Soup home also has a big black cat named Pan. Even as an adult, Soup remains petite, while Pan cuts an imposing figure. Their everyday life is a comic serial full of smiles, humor, and amusing exchanges. “Opera Soup,” “Boxed Soup,” “Dreamy Bun”... Their owner’s captions are wonderfully witty, too. If you’d like to know more, turn the pages. You’re guaranteed an enjoyable, entertaining read. What’s more, the lives of these two black fluffballs show off the impeccable taste of their home! The minimalist yet cozy room is predominantly white, with a blurred landscape visible through its large frosted window... This book not only offers a glimpse of an ideal living space; it may also make you wish you were a cat living in that room.
