Statement on the work:
As a creator, Zhiyi likes to find inspiration in everyday life. Much of her inspiration comes from her own emotions, her connection with nature, and her imagination. She is skilled at painting with acrylic paint, ink, and other mixed media.
Her creative choices come from the heart. Beginning with a connection to her own emotions, her work later took on new meaning when the COVID-19 pandemic struck and many activities were restricted during the period of epidemic prevention. She created prolifically during this time, which led her to consider the healing effect her work could have on people. She also wanted to use artmaking to break through the isolation of that period.
In these works, the artist begins incorporating materials beyond acrylic paint, such as paper and fabric. The recurring wrinkles, unevenness, and cracks in the materials represent the setbacks and difficulties we encounter in life; the soft colors and brushstrokes symbolize that we can ultimately overcome them!
