Artwork title: Her side
Artist: Nord Projects
Josephine Holmgren is the founder of Nord Projects. She grew up in northern Sweden but has lived in Gothenburg for the past decade, studying and working in design. She began making art as a child, though her work was completely different then: “From sculpture and abstract oil/acrylic painting to realistic charcoal portraits and digital art, I’ve explored all kinds of creative work because I love every kind of creation.”
However, it was not until 2018, when Josephine Holmgren finally decided to take art seriously, that she founded Nord Projects.
For Josephine Holmgren, making art is a very natural process: “I make art because I don’t know how not to.” Nord Projects draws inspiration from people and nature: “The human body and everything related to being human—our emotions and imperfections, our relationships and feelings—are all very beautiful to me.”
When asked to describe the artwork of Nord Projects, Josephine said, “Organic, soft, feminine.”
Josephine Holmgren wants Nord Projects to be about emotion. She wants it to “capture moments in life—times when you feel truly happy and just want to stop time, or moments of struggle and the monotony of everyday routines. All these moments are part of life. So, through organic shapes of the human body or nature, combined with particular colors or brushwork techniques, I try to express these different emotions.”
