This series is titled On Windy Days.
By depicting the many different appearances of grassland, I explore distance, viewpoints, and changing weather. At first glance, each work seems to exist independently, but the arrangement of the images and the connections between their patterns suggest that they come from the same stretch of grassland. The slightly abstract imagery also creates an ambiguous, hazy sense of uncertainty. For me, making art is like moving back and forth through the gray areas of contradiction.
I move between figuration and abstraction, create softness within hardness, and wander between sky and earth. Even amid constant uncertainty, a sense of consistency remains. I find this fascinating. To me, this is the romance of art, and the kind of romance I seek.
My initial interest in grassland came from one particular quality: whatever is placed there, and whatever happens there, seems reasonable and acceptable. Recently, I have begun to realize that this quality may be connected to the gray areas and distances I repeatedly consider in my work.
From a distance, grassland looks like a soft blanket, especially on windy days. Yet when you approach it or walk into it, it feels prickly and, in some circumstances, can even cause injury.
Artist Introduction/Wang, Wen-Ling
Creativity walks in the gray areas of contradiction between image and media vocabulary, always pulling back and forth between figurative and abstract, creating softness in the hard, and wandering between the sky and the earth.
The medium is mostly etching with copper plates, and her works are good at expressing the layers of "fine, atomized, and tactile".
