About the artist
Growing up, Marina García Fernández had a father who owned a printing company and often brought home several kilograms of draft paper for her to draw on. “I think having an unlimited supply of paper made me unafraid of a blank canvas,” García says. “I was always drawing.”
She has found—and continues to find—inspiration in small details of everyday life, such as ceramics and fragments of conversations and books, and especially in some of her greater passions, including food and nature.
Garcia studied creative practice and design, specializing in painting, and subsequently worked mainly in the fashion industry. “It’s a very exciting, busy, and competitive world. It demands a strong cultural and visual understanding, so I think I grew a great deal as a visual artist because of it.”
Today, Garcia describes her art as figurative, simple, and tranquil. Above all, she sees the creative process as a way to share ideas and feelings: “When I create, whether through observation, memory, or imagination, I am telling stories through images; I am telling people something.
