Product details
Artist:
ob is a Japanese contemporary artist born in 1992 and is regarded as one of the leading artists of Japan’s SNS generation. Early on, she interacted with creators of her generation through illustration-sharing platforms such as pixiv and organized exhibitions while studying in Kyoto. She later attracted attention through the 2010 “Wassyoi” exhibition.
Her work often features large-eyed girls, soft colors, dreamlike spaces, and characters who are solitary but not gloomy. Kaikai Kiki Gallery aptly describes her characters as frequently placed in imaginary scenes, seemingly cut off from the real world, giving the impression that the true heart of the story lies somewhere beyond the picture.
ob’s background is also very much of its time: she belongs to a generation that grew up with manga, anime, games, and online visual culture. An interview with Elephant notes that her work moves between the digital, the spiritual, and the real world, gradually expanding from online illustration into contemporary art that places greater emphasis on the physical presence of painting.

Original poster from an art museum
Drifting, 2024
In Drifting, two figures sit in a small boat floating on a calm sea. On the left, a pink-haired figure with small wings leans against the side of the boat, looking somewhat weary, as though waiting; on the right, a blue-haired figure sits holding an object resembling a birdcage or lantern. The overall palette is a soft haze of blue, pink, and gray-green, with a strong sense of atmosphere. It feels like a fairy tale, or a dream from which one cannot wake.
