Artist: Rebecca Hein
Organic shapes, soft lines, and the interplay of neutral tones and bright colors are central to the work of Danish artist and designer Rebecca Hein.
Growing up near the ocean gave Rebecca an innate love of wild nature, the source of many of her motifs and color inspirations, from the curves of the coastline to the textures of rocks and waves. “At the moment, I am working with silk fabric and tissue paper. Then I experiment with many different types of paint and techniques until I achieve the result I want. It is usually a lengthy process,” she says, adding, “It really comes down to the last millimeter before I think it is perfect.”
Perfection itself, however, is not what Hein seeks to present. Instead, the pursuit is to find beauty in imperfection, inspired by the Japanese aesthetic of wabi-sabi.
The Heart of Home
Rebecca and her husband live in a small 1960s house north of Copenhagen with their three children and their dog, Bowie.
They soon had children, and she spent several years at home with them: “During that time, I came to understand deeply how important home is to me—its functionality and flow—and how important it is to surround yourself with objects that inspire you.”
This led her to found her interiors brand, Hein Studio, which she runs with her husband. “I love that it gives me the opportunity to share my aesthetics and design with the world.”
