Title: Siddende kvinde (kunstnerens kone) / Seated Woman (The Artist's Wife)
Artwork details / Year: 1917. Medium: oil, watercolor and ink.
Seated Woman, also known as Woman with Bent Knees, is a portrait of Schiele’s wife, Edith. During the period when Edith died of the Spanish flu, Schiele painted many portraits of her using oil paint, watercolor, and ink.
About the artist / Egon Schiele (June 12, 1890–October 31, 1918) was an Austrian painter and a pupil of Gustav Klimt. A leading Expressionist of the early twentieth century, he is known for intensely expressive depictions of distorted figures and limbs, often in self-portraits. Many of his works are held by the Leopold Museum.
