"Near Maruyama" is a special selection of Oriental paintings for the second Taiwan exhibition. Its content is complex, the composition is rigorous, the pen is dense, and the color is subtle. The spatial relationship between the shade of the trees and the rocks is clear, the air can flow between them, and the green halo seems to have dozens of hue changes, rich in layers, and the atmosphere is charming. The trail meanders into the depths of flowers and trees, and several vermilion chicken crowns contrast harmoniously. The vegetable garden under the hill, the young woman farming alone, the belt seems to be red, a little red in the green bush. The works show a strong personal taste and the unique landscape of mountains and greenery in Taiwan, which is different from traditional Chinese heavy color painting and Japanese Oriental painting. Guo Xuehu was born in Dadaocheng, Taipei. In his early years, he followed Chen Yingsheng's practice of Chinese painting and watercolor, and also studied painting from Cai Xuexi. Later, he followed the ancients of the township. He paid attention to sketching, especially to the observation of Taiwanese trees and rocks, with strong glue color to express the unique local scenery, and used it to shine in the pre-war official art exhibition. In 1964, he moved to Japan, taking landscape and still life as the creative theme, and was influenced by Western painting, emphasizing three-dimensional performance. After that, Guo Xuehu moved to the United States, still focusing on landscape creation.
