Takeru Amano | Takeru Amano
As the son of renowned artist Yoshitaka Amano, Takeru Amano was exposed to art from an early age. Born in Tokyo in 1977, he studied at a printmaking studio in New York for three years, from 1997 to 2000, before returning to Japan. In addition to his accomplished painting and sculpture, he has produced many works in design, art direction, and video direction. Amano uses vivid, lively colors and gives his figures clean, concise outlines. He is skilled at combining iconic elements to create paintings that are playful yet rich in meaning. He successfully blends classical and modern influences, Japanese popular culture, and trends in contemporary New York art. In addition to collaborating with the fashion brand Yohji Yamamoto, he founded his own art-and-lifestyle brand, Newart. He has exhibited in Tokyo, Hong Kong, and Paris since 2014.
