Title: Circular Vase
About the artist / Eleni Psyllaki
Eleni Psyllaki, the artist behind Studio Paradissi, lives on the Mediterranean island of Crete, where she was also born. Her Greek heritage has always been an important source of inspiration for her art.
Her artworks bring together Constructivism, Minimalism, and the folklore of Byzantine culture in a balanced way. Her palette typically consists of earthy tones, muted hues, and rich blacks. “I’m working on a new series of works on paper that includes patterns and bolder contrasts, as well as some digital works inspired by minimalist patterns.”
For her, the creative process involves extensive preliminary sketches and mood boards. The shape of a vessel often appears on the canvas: “The vessel is an archetypal form that has historically served as a metaphor for existence,” Eleni tells us. She adds that she draws deep inspiration from the history and symbolism of the vessel motif, which also connects to her fascination with architecture and Byzantine art.
Living a Balanced Life
In her work as an artist, Eleni continues to broaden her horizons. She says, “I would love to improve my work. Bringing more of my subconscious onto the canvas and reaching a wider audience would embrace my vision.”
Even while relaxing, the creative process continues: “I love cooking and baking because I find them just as creative as designing or painting.” A perfect day therefore includes a few hours of creative work and time with family.
“Everything exists in the form of a vessel. The grounded base represents the earth, while the opening at the top symbolizes a connection with the divine. They are interconnected, and a person needs both to live a balanced life.”
