威廉·透納（Joseph Mallord William Turner，1775-1851）— 被譽為「光之畫家」的浪漫主義風景大師
1666年，科學家牛頓發現太陽光經三稜鏡的折射後可呈現彩色光，藝術家才知道，白光是由多種顏色的光所組成。1801年，英國學者湯瑪士‧楊格首先研究人眼對顏色的感覺。他指出在可見光譜的位置排列上，只需選擇三種彼此有相當差距的基本色光，按不同的比例組合，幾乎可產生任何一種顏色。
