Artwork title: In the Shade
Driven by a desire to explore the world beyond her hometown of Gävle, Sweden, Teklan moved to Stockholm in her early twenties and gradually established her creative career there. She initially trained in architecture before turning to architectural photography, bringing to it her keen sensitivity to spatial dynamics and design aesthetics. Today, she describes herself as a “color artist.”
“For me, exploring color is a lifelong journey. I’m endlessly drawn to its intense yet elusive qualities—colors are always changing, never still, and always defined by their surroundings. This fascination drives me to keep exploring new relationships, combinations, and moods in color,” she explains.
Combining her expertise in interior design with her passion for the nature of color, Teklan creates immersive, vibrant works and spaces that challenge conventional perceptions of color and design.
A Design Both Playful and Bold
Teklan is fascinated by the tactile experiences offered by materials and surface treatments—from luxurious textiles to stained wood and the texture of plaster. She delights in curating spaces and creating images that foster a warm, sophisticated atmosphere.
“I enjoy unexpected combinations and often try to juxtapose different elements in ways that are both playful and bold, creating compelling, dynamic mixes,” Teklan says.
She enjoys exploring the interplay between geometric shapes and color, as well as the delicate balance between free expression and structured design. Inspired by everyday moments, the changing dynamics of light, and the influences of Bauhaus and Memphis design, she creates a visual language with a surreal quality that invites viewers to see the world from a new perspective.
