Artwork title: Blue Horse

Originally from Odesa, Ukraine, artist Alexandra Ravskaya now lives in Stockholm, Sweden. Her work is deeply inspired by the coastal scenery of her hometown. Growing up beside the Black Sea, she developed a love of color, nature, and freedom amid its vibrant natural surroundings. These elements now form themes in her work, which explores harmony and connections between nature and humanity.

“I’ve gradually realized that everything in nature is already perfect. The world was originally in balance; humans created stress and chaos themselves—and no one is better at it than we are. My art depicts the peaceful, harmonious world that could have existed but that we have never brought about.”

Her artistic journey began at the Odesa Art Lyceum, followed by further study at the Odesa State Academy of Building and Architecture, where she built a solid foundation in classical art.

From the Classroom to the Canvas

Alexandra's artistic path draws on influences ranging from Renaissance painters Fra Angelico and Botticelli to modern Swedish artists Bror Hjorth and Jockum Nordström. Combining figurative composition, abstraction and folk art, her work often presents figures with a sense of naivety, emphasizing innocence and the beauty of simplicity.

She primarily paints with tempera, acrylic paint, and crayons, most often working on canvas. Alexandra embraces spontaneity in her creative process, allowing each work to develop and take shape naturally.

“The most magical thing is that I can never predict the final result. As I create it, each painting is like a living being taking shape, developing an appearance of its own. It really is magic!”
