Artist: Jackson Pollock
Jackson Pollock was an influential American painter and a leading force in the Abstract Expressionist movement. He is renowned for the drip-painting technique he developed.
Beginning in 1947, he used a drip-painting technique, abandoning the easel and laying enormous canvases flat on the floor. Paint was dripped and splashed from perforated containers, sticks or brushes; thinner paint was applied with sprayers. Rather than working from one position, he moved around and across the canvas, creating compositions without a clear center or recognizable structure. Repeated, unconscious movements formed complex, tangled webs of lines, twisting across the surface amid constantly shifting colors. His pursuit of an extreme release of the subconscious reveals the influence of Surrealism.
