About the artist

Osamu Yokonami (born 1967)

Professional photographer Osamu Yokonami's style is simple and direct, without elaborate colors or unnecessary embellishment. A clear, natural landscape alone can move the viewer, like a breath of fresh air in a noisy world. Alongside the vivid colors of Mika Ninagawa and the black-and-white documentary photography of Nobuyoshi Araki, Yokonami exemplifies the depth and variety of Japanese photography. His distinctive Japanese aesthetic is especially evident in his portraits: understated yet natural, lively and full of childlike wonder, they offer comfort to many viewers. In his photographs, girls gather in groups, dressed alike and moving in unison, running and jumping through forests, beaches, snowfields and grasslands as though on a spring outing. These images stir the heart like the purest skies of memory.

100 Children: This is a well-known series by photographer Osamu Yokonami, centered on children’s everyday lives and capturing moments of innocence and spontaneity. He places the children against natural backdrops, using contrasting colors and inventive compositions to create a dreamlike beauty.
