Product details
Artist: William Scott
William Scott (1913–1989) created an extraordinary body of work over a six-year career, securing his reputation as one of the leading British painters of his generation. Exhibiting in the United States and Europe from the early 1950s, Scott became known for his powerful handling of paint in explorations of still life, landscape, the nude, and the shifting boundaries between them.
Working across the genres of still life, landscape, and the nude, Scott developed a distinctive language that pushed the boundaries of abstraction and representation, leaving an influential body of work that shaped important developments in mid-20th-century European and American painting. His works often feature dynamic compositions and vibrant painted surfaces. They therefore possess an enduring human quality, remaining as fresh and relevant today as they were more than fifty years ago.
