Artist biography: Neuhyo
Neuhyo is a Seoul-based illustrator known for vivid colors, soft pencil lines and warm everyday details. She captures ordinary, easily overlooked moments filled with happiness.
Creative core and background
A change in outlook: Neuhyo once said that she was a relatively negative person while studying at art school. Later, she discovered that stopping comparisons with others was the key to freeing herself from negative emotions. From then on, she began paying attention to life’s “happy moments” and working to incorporate these peaceful, beautiful moments into her paintings.
The aesthetics of everyday life: Rather than grand themes, her work focuses on moments from daily life, such as exercising early in the morning, enjoying a delicious meal, or talking with friends. Through her paintings, she hopes readers will rediscover these small, often taken-for-granted joys.
Artistic style and techniques
Medium: Although Neuhyo occasionally experiments with digital drawing, she primarily works by hand using analog methods. She favors the soft touch of pencil paired with bright tones to create a warm, light, and poetic atmosphere.
Artistic influence: Her work was deeply inspired by the French painter **Raoul Dufy**. She greatly admired Dufy’s positive attitude: despite the hardships of his life, he could still “celebrate the joy of life” in his work.
Characteristics of the work
Neuhyo's illustrations often feature beautifully arranged tables, colorful fruit such as figs and oranges, girls stretching and summery swimming pools. Her casual yet delicate strokes carry a rhythmic quality that conveys tranquility and comfort.
