Artist: Yuichi Hirako
Born in Okayama Prefecture, Japan, in 1982. He graduated from Wimbledon School of Art in Britain in 2006 and now lives and works in Tokyo. Working in painting and sculpture, Yuichi Hirako explores the coexistence and interdependence of humanity and nature; each painting poses a question about the natural world. His oil paintings develop the motif of growth rings and describe the significance of forests and nature in Japanese history and religion, including the belief that all things possess a spirit. Bright colors, intricate compositions and freely handled lines create richly detailed worlds reminiscent of carefully constructed theatrical sets. Active internationally in recent years, he has shown his Growth Rings series and exhibited in Denmark, the Netherlands, France, the United States and Singapore.
