Artwork title: OCEAN GIRLS
Poster size: 59.4 x 84.1 cm
Original exhibition poster from the United States
Ocean Girls is a painting by Ida Ekblad with a pronounced material presence of color and form, as though constructed through vigorous painting. Ekblad seeks to convey that a painting can also be an object; in this case, her deliberate use of abundant materials gives it a weighty physical presence.
Based in Oslo, Ida Ekblad works across painting, sculpture, performance, film and poetry. She graduated from the Oslo National Academy of the Arts in 2007 and the Mountain School of Arts in Los Angeles in 2008. She participated in the Venice Biennale in 2011 and 2017, alongside numerous solo and group exhibitions.
Artist: Ida Ekblad
Ida Ekblad is a Norwegian contemporary artist born in 1980. Working primarily in painting, sculpture, installation and photography, she brings an exuberant creativity to exploring relationships between nature and the built environment.
Ekblad's work is visually forceful, filled with vivid colors, strongly defined forms and abundant images, symbols and text. She enjoys working with varied materials, including paint, satin, foam and metal, alongside less conventional materials such as fur and synthetic hair. Their use gives her work visual richness and tension.
As a young artist, Ekblad has already gained considerable recognition in European art circles. Her work has been widely shown at major international art exhibitions, including the Venice Biennale, the Renaissance Art Museum, and the Hyde Park Art Museum. Her work is also held by several internationally renowned museums and private collectors.
Overall, Ekblad is an exceptionally creative and experimental contemporary artist whose work not only has a strong visual impact but also offers viewers a rich visual and emotional experience.
