Artwork title: Visual Flow
Artist: Wensi Zhai
Illustrator, graphic designer, and visual artist Zhai Wensi was born in Beijing, China, but has lived in Helsinki, Finland, since 2009. She holds two master's degrees: she first earned a bachelor's degree in visual communication from the Central Academy of Fine Arts in China, then studied environmental art at Aalto University in Finland.
In Finland, she began creating art, starting with small visual diaries that expressed thoughts, feelings, and energies too difficult to put into words.
“Art makes me happy, and I can see that I’m able to share that happiness with others—which makes it even better.”
Over her many years as an artist, Zhai Wensi has worked in graphic design, visual art, book design, editing, packaging, and advertising illustration. In 2018, she co-founded the Shanghai Children’s Picture Book Research Center. She has organized and participated in exhibitions in the United Kingdom, Germany, Japan, Estonia, Finland, and China, serving both as curator and exhibiting artist.
Zhai Wensi draws inspiration from “...the beauty of nature, imperfection, and my spiritual intuition.”
