Product details
Project Name: Untitled
The painting exudes the power of gestures originally found in Tombray's “blackboard” works of the 1960s and early 1970s, characterized by cursive lines, swept arcs, and drops of red paint on yellow fields. It embodies the artist's massive return to painting in the 2000s and his adoption of a new approach to color, using rich, saturated tones.

About the artist
The early work of American artist Cy Twombly was wild and bold, with hurried, scrawled brushstrokes and spontaneous smears. He actively experimented with the drip technique and often collaged different elements. His paintings frequently drew on Greek mythology and stories of the Roman Empire, breaking with traditional ways of depicting these subjects.
This poster featuring Untitled (1969) was produced in 2018, in conjunction with Cy Twombly: In Beauty it is finished, Drawings 1951–2008 at Gagosian, West 21st Street, New York. This was the first career-spanning exhibition of drawings and works on paper by Cy Twombly, and marked the completion of Cy Twombly: Catalogue Raisonné of Drawings , edited by Nicola Del Roscio.
